I love that this beautiful Royal Albert mirror and brush set sits on top of my dresser. The first moment I set my eyes on it I knew it would be mine. I know it's not anantique set , but I love it more!

A Pink Needlepoint Quilt

My wonderful talented dear Sister In-Law is a dedicated quilt maker. This is one of two quilts she has made for me. This is my favorite of all the quilts she has made (she has made one or more for all the family!) She knew I loved all things needlepoint and has also made me a beautiful framed piece of needlework that I will show in a future post. This quilt has one dozen needlepoint squares of sweet shops we all know and visit. This gift was a thoughtful and generous surprise when I received it and I will always be grateful to be it's care giver..My photos do not show it's beautiful colors and the fine needle work that had gone into it's making. were tucked safely away in
the attic of a good friend of mine.

I have always read about how treasures like these
were discovered in some one's attic, and I never believed
that was true, until it happened to me.

After the scary climb up the stairs,
walking along the loudest creaky floor boards,
and trying to uncover the right box, with
pen markings 'Myrtle's Valentine's'
I held this box safely in my arms, I
was excited to know what ever treasures tucked
inside, would emerge, and most likely,
Be Mine...
I never did have the opptunity to meet this
lovely lady Ms. Myrtle. I did however, have the chance
to be friends with her elderly son
and elderly daughter. A family that loved life,
and lived evey moment in happiness.
Mother was the most important person
in this family. I heard all the wonderful
things about Mother. There was no one else
like Mother on this earth. She was,
MOTHER

All of these cards were given to Mother from

the adult children of this lovely lady!

She had been published in local newspapers for her

interest in the City's history of the American

Valentine. I am so greatful to be the new

caretaker of this wonderful collection.

A Day With Louisa

While in Lexington today we decided to stop in Concord to pay a visit to the home of Louisa May Alcott the author of Little Women. It has always been a wish of mine to visit Orchard House as I loved the book and movie of this beautiful creative lady who lived in the time period I so longed to live in too! As soon as we drove into our parking space my heart started to sing with happiness. I could tell my husband knew I was like a child at Christmas as he smiled as I jumped out of the car with camera in tow!I knocked on the door knowing that Louisa was probably not at home or not receiving visitors. I wondered why there was no wreath on the door, as I knew Marmee would have made sure that all were welcomed and a wreath of any kind would have put the most weary traveler at ease. I then followed the sign that prompted you to use the side door. Of course, the front entrance was used for only special occasions! Was this not one of them?

Louisa May Alcott. Author of Little Women. Devoted daughter, devoted sister. Devoted aunt.Loved her family more than life itself.

Home in Concord Ma. Louisa spent 20 years of her life here in Orchard House where she wrote her best selling novel of all times 'Little Women' Her bedroom on the upper right hand side of the house is where she spent a lot of her time writting her beloved classic novel. It is here where her words touched so many.

This is her desk that her father had built for her and this is where she started to write the first of her book, before moving onto a 'real desk' that she bought after she had become a writter of fame. As I stood by this desk I glanced out of Louisa's window to see that a light snow had started to fall and I felt that this was such a wonderful place and knew we were all feeling that Louisa was there with us, in her room, as we all admired the woman that she was.

Love the mouring doves. They love to be together and can stay in one spot for up to 30 minutes at one time. They will also soar off in a second flat if a sound is made anywhere around them. I was lucky to be far enough away that they did not hear me watching them. Lucky me.

It is so nice to know there is a place we can go throughout the long winter months to have such beauty of flowers to keep us happy until spring. Tower Hill Botanical Garden located in Boylston, Ma, is just the place. Open all year long (except Christmas Day) I know where I will be spending some of my weekend time. This will allow me to get through the ice and snow and dream of better days to come. How lucky for me. I love the stone statues and they have many of them. Counting the day!

How wonderful to have a very best friend. The founding editor of my favorite magazine "Victoria" has put together a new book called "My First Best Friend" it contains stories of friendships. It comes out in March 2010 and I cant wait to own a copy. I do follow Nancy's blog (the editor/author) and have told her about the friendship of these two special girls. "Pinky Swear" even with the nail polish peeling and the lovely plastic beaded bracelets. Friendship can not be any sweeter!

A little fish out of water

It was fun to create this page for Sara's scrapbook. I love the story of the beautiful girl who was so in love that she accidentally killed him. Ashamed she felt she needed to jump into the lake to become a fish. But, her beauty was so great that the waters could only turn her partly into a fish, becoming the first mermaid. How awesome. Aunt Ellen had to help me with the picture as the original photo when taken had Sara's legs too far apart to become a curvy fish tail so Aunt Ellen did her computer magic and removed Sara's legs from the photo so I could make her fish tail. We sure love the magic the computer can do. I do have a second layout for this theme but it is not completed yet. Hope you like it!

This past May we had a wonderful week and a half of togetherness again. With Charlotte living in Florida, us sisters get to be together usually once a year. Most times for less than a week but this year we were blessed with more than a week.

It was one of the quieter times together but we did get to do fun things.

We had gone to the science center right here in Worcester. This is Sara with Kenda the polar Bear in the background.

This was so funny..we found this plant terrarium that had a place for two to stick their heads in. Of course we had to have a few laughs and try it out. It was quite hot under there. And the earth doesn't always smell that great. LOL

Here is Sara and Jen being their silly selves. I think they had a fun time being silly that day.

We had a lot of fun, if only the food concession had stayed open we would have stayed longer.

Hippity hoppity Easters on its way.....The daffodils are blooming and the stores are brimming with lots of chocolate. Easter has always been a family favorite, and I would have never thought my Mom would pass away on Easter. We still celebrate Easter in her honor. She would have it no other way.
I was looking thru my portable hard drive for something this morning and came across some picture from Easters past. I know there are a lot more, but I just snagged a few that randomly came across the monitor.

That is me in the front left holding my little white purse. I just love the head piece I had on. How cute is that. I can remember getting ready for Easter. It was so fun getting special clothes. I would be wearing everything new on Easter day from head to toe. New socks, shoes, underwear even. The other girls were neighborhood friends. I was from a very close knit neighborhood where everyone knew everyone. Those were "the good ole days".

Charlotte carried the Easter tradition on when she had kids. This is Charlotte and her daughter Deb and son George Jr. They were looking as fresh as the spring air. Luv the hats on them. You just don't see hats anymore.

Now we have become in color. This is Deb and George Jr. a bit older. They were living on the other side of the country at this time. We were in MA and they were in sunny California. Boy did we miss them.

Moving along to the 80's. This is my two..Jeff and Jen. Not much after this year that the hats were a thing of the past.

my granddaughter sara school highland elementary has two beautiful eagles.the students named themLady Liberty and Sir Justice.In the play area there is a big tree,on the school property,and there have taking over.they been there since Sara went to kindergarden,and she's in the fourth grade now.the bottom picture are two baby which they are called Eaglets.the students voted and named them Stars and Stripes.i circle the baby,because it's hard to see them.it is so amazing. i hope you enjoy our Eagles. the older sister

Clothes pins

How wonderful to see these old fashion clothes pins. Very round and solid. Not like the squeeze one's of today. I can remember mom keeping them in an old box just sitting on the floor of the back porch. There was a sliding door that one had to push off to the side to access the upside down umbrella style clothesline. It stayed in place by a long wrought iron hook. Once unhooked you would pull the hook closer to you and hook it into a second eye hook. Then you could keep the clothesline from moving as you hung your clothes. They always did their job and held tight onto the heaviest of clothing in all sort of weather. They were also fun to draw faces on them becoming little pin people. Today the squeeze style pins are also used as bag closures.

Hey there...just wanted to check in and say that there is only 23 days til spring...YIPPPPEE....almost time for St Patty's day..then we'll have Easter. I am soooo ready for the nicer weather to come. It's nice today to see the sun shinning. I am also ready for some heavy duty spring cleaning. Time to evacuate all the webs. I was in the bathroom window this morning and was watching birds flying in and out of the Rhodie there. And we now have the ducks back in the pond...don't know if they are the guilty one that pooped on the window and frame...YUCKO The other night I don't know what possessed me to yonder out on the deck, but wen I got out there I seen this big ole bunny. I bet he was the Easter bunny checking on things in the flower bed...heehee hee.

I am also looking forward to Friday with the thoughts of possibly going to Sturbridge. I am due for a lunch at soups to nuts. I can smell the soup now...YUMMO

Our Mother

This is our mother. At times she was the fourth sister,or the best friend, but she was always Mom. She taught us the finest things in life....FAMILY... Her whole being revolved around her seven children. She always worried so much about us, and in return we have become worriers ourselves. I don't think its a bad trait, as we all need someone to worry/care about us....
She came to the USA from Canada when she was three years old. To never return. She met our father and settled down . She was a very strong woman..both physically and mentally. She was a hard worker both in and out of the home. Until one uneventful day she got seriously hurt at work. Which resulted in the loss of her right forearm and hand. She worked so hard to train herself to be one handed. She was still able to be a care given grandmother changing diapers and feeding bottles.
We lost this wonderful friend, sister and mother on April 15,2001 soon to be eight years.
She is still with us in all we do, as she so loved to be involved in all we did.
We love you Addie, and miss you more than you would ever know.

How wonderful that we can post on our own blog. We can now share what ever we want. I want to say how wonderful life has been for us as sisters. We have shared so much. The loss of our brothers and our parents have made us stronger. I don't know how I could go on without you both. We are aging. Time is flying and we need to spend more time together. Until we are all in one place again, guess we can be here, with our thoughts.
